Travel Day

Rough travel day to Hawaii. Flight was scheduled for 9:30 AM departure, so we got up at 5:30 to get on the road by 6:30 to be at the airport by 7. Of course we stayed up until midnight before getting packed to go. Our friends the LFs let us borrow their car to pack the night before and drive us the the airport.

In the car about 6:45 getting ready to pick up our driver, Tashana gets a text that the flight has been delayed until 1:PM. The whole family goes to breakfast (rather than eating breakfast in the airport after check in as planned). Edison goes home and takes his nap (rather than napping on the plan as planned). We scramble to find a ride to the airport that will work with Edison's nap, LF plans, and new departure time. Finally figure out we need to take a cab. Unpack LFs car. Wait 1 hour.

Airline calls, says part came in early, and flight will leave as soon as you get here. Thanks goodness that was only 15 minutes before the planned cab pickup time, so no rescheduling. Get in van to got to airport. Check in, security, get on plane, all went well since they are basically waiting on us.

Edy flew like a champ, we read, watched iPad, colored, looked out the window. Edison wanted to get up and move around. Thank goodness they plane had empty seats we could climb all over and run through. Couldn't get him to nap again, through we got close. Through it all, no crying and minimal whining. Pretty good overall. 6 1/2 hour flight.

Get off plane at about 6:30 PM Seattle time. Take shuttle to get rental van. Wait at rental place for 1 and 1/2 hours to get van due to an understaffed front desk. (Let kids play in dirty parking lot for 1 1/2 hours, because really, what else is there for them to do?)

Find pizza pickup on the way to hotel. Get to hotel, get key to room, inside, eat, bath, etc, finally kids to bed by 9:30 Seattle time for Edison and 10 for Edy. Everybody exhausted. But the kids did really great all things considered.

Kids up at 7:00 AM sharp Seattle time next day. That's 5:AM Hawaii time.
